IMD Forecasts Very Heavy Rainfall Across Assam for Next 3–4 Days
The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms across Assam and neighbouring states until August 1, prompting ASDMA to issue precautionary advisories and place emergency response systems on alert.
GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across Assam and neighbouring states over the next three to four days, prompting the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) to advise residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
According to the IMD forecast, widespread rainfall activity is expected from July 30 to August 1, with isolated areas likely to receive intense precipitation capable of triggering waterlogging, flash floods and landslides.
An Orange Alert has been issued for Tinsukia district in Assam. Similar alerts have also been issued for Mon, Mokokchung and Wokha districts of Nagaland, where heavy rainfall could impact adjoining Assam districts, including Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat.

The IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over several districts of Arunachal Pradesh, including East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Papumpare, Lower Subansiri and Lower Dibang Valley. These weather conditions may affect neighbouring Assam districts such as Tinsukia, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur.
Rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm per day is likely at many places across East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Lower Subansiri and Lower Dibang Valley. Meanwhile, Papumpare district may receive very heavy rainfall ranging from 12 cm to 20 cm at isolated locations.
The prevailing weather conditions are expected to increase the risk of urban waterlogging, riverine flooding, flash floods, slow vehicular movement and localised landslides, particularly in low-lying and hilly areas.

The ASDMA said district administrations are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation, while emergency response agencies have been placed on alert to respond swiftly if required.
Residents have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and monitor official weather bulletins before undertaking long-distance journeys.
People living in low-lying flood-prone areas and hillside regions have been urged to remain alert for signs of flooding, landslides and slope instability.
Authorities have appealed to the public to rely only on official updates issued by the India Meteorological Department, ASDMA and local district administrations. Regular weather updates and advisories will be available through the official ASDMA website and its social media platforms.
