GUWAHATI : The Assam Legislative Assembly suspended independent MLA Akhil Gogoi from the House on the first day of the winter session, started today. Gogoi was suspended from winter session Assam Assembly by Speaker Biswajit Daimari for repeatedly disobeying the orders of the Speaker.
Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary requested Akhil Gogoi to take his seat to raise supplementary questions during Question Hour. But Gogoi wanted to raise a supplementary question related to harassment against women in the society, which was eventually interrupted and disallowed by the Speaker.
Gogoi said he had raised questions on the floor of the House about the increasing crimes against women and the conflict between Assam and Meghalaya. But the House did not allow him to raise questions.
Gogoi has quite a history when it comes to suspension from the House. In another episode this year, during a budget session, Akhil Gogoi repeatedly interrupted Governor Jagdish Mukhi for which he was dragged out of the Assembly House. Gogoi was asked to leave the House by the Speaker. He refused to leave and displayed a placard on which was taken out of the place by force.
The 15th Assam Legislative Assembly, 2022 Winter Session started on Tuesday with a five-day programme. 12 bills will be introduced in the session. Of these, 11 bills will be introduced for amendment. Another bill will be introduced for repeal.
