Assam: BJP Leader Among Six, including a woman Arrested For Running Human Trafficking Racket

The human trafficking group lured a minor girl in Murajhar while promising her employment and afterwards sold her to a Delhi prostitution ring.

GUWAHATI-  Assam Police on Wednesday busted a human trafficking racket and arrested six individuals including a BJP leader in Murajhar village in Assam’s Hojai district. The arrested people have been identified as Parbina Begum, Bilal Uddin, Afzal Uddin, Nasir Hussain, Ajmal Hussain and BJP leader Abdul Karim.

All the accused were produced before the district court at Sankardev Nagar in Hojai after which they were taken to jail. The prime accused Parbina Begum and her brother Ajmal Hussain were sent to two days of police custody for further questioning and the remaining four were sent to judicial custody.

A senior police official informed that the human trafficking group lured a minor girl in Murajhar while promising her employment and afterwards sold her to a Delhi prostitution ring. However, the victim was able to escape and travel to Dehradun and then using the child helpline number she was rescued.

Following this, the family of the victim was able to bring her back to Hojai with the help of All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) district unit on July 4.

The police registered the complaint of the victim after recording her statement at the Debasthan Police Station. The six accused have been booked under several sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The family of the rescued girl also alleged that they received death threats from the gang for registering their complaint to the police. An investigation is underway and police are looking to nab other members of the gang.
