Assam Boat capsize:  rescue operation fails to trace 3 missing persons on Day 3

Rescue operation fail on day-3  to trace 3 missing persons  after Boat capsize in Katakhal river in Hailakandi, Assam.

Deep divers and SDRF personnel couldn’t trace the three persons who went missing in a country boat capsize at Lalamukh ferry ghat in Hailakandi district on Sunday.

For three successive days the search operation continued to trace the missing persons identified as Sumit Parsi (27) and his brother Ajay Parsi (22) and Ramesh Parsi (38) but all efforts went in vain. They are all feared to have drowned.

Incharge, Fire Service, Hailakandi, Albert I Khobung said deep divers and SDRF personnel resumed their search operation on the third day on Tuesday till the Matijuri point but it did not yield the desired result. Assam Police personnel also supervised the search operation.

The boat was on its way to North Jyotsnabad across the Katakhal river from Lalamukh ferry ghat when it overturned in rough weather.

Several youths from Lalamukh tea estate boarded the already overloaded country boat at Lalamukh ferry ghat to witness the finals of a football match at North Jyotsnabad on the other side of the river at around 3 pm.

The district administration swung into action on receiving information about the mishap. It ordered immediate arrest of the ferry ghat lessee Naimuddin Laskar for gross violation of government guidelines.

Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan has expressed grief over the tragic accident and assured all possible help and support to the families of those missing.
