Assam: Heroin worth Rs 12 crore seized in Karbi Anglong, 2 held

“The police team recovered 150 soap boxes containing 1.777 kg of heroin from the two-wheeler”.

GUWAHATI-  Assam police have seized 1.77 kg of heroin worth Rs 12 crore and apprehended two drug peddlers in Karbi Anglong district.

Based on the information, Karbi Anglong district police had set up a special check post in the Matipul area under Bokajan police station on Tuesday night and intercepted a two-wheeler.

Bokajan SDPO John Das said, “The police team recovered 150 soap boxes containing 1.777 kg of heroin from the two-wheeler”.

While appreciating Assam police,  Assam chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma  tweeted ” In yet another smart operation by  @assampolice, a team seized 1.77 kg heroin, in 150 soap boxes inside a two-wheeler at Matipul, at 9.30 pm on November 16. Two accused have been apprehended. Good work by  @bokajanpolice . Much appreciated.

“We have apprehended two persons identified as Biol Tossa and Saddam Hussain along with the drugs. The market value of the recovered drugs is estimated at around Rs 12 crore,” John Das said.

The Bokajan SDPO further said that during the preliminary interrogation it was found that they were carrying the drugs to deliver to Naoghat area under Sarupathar Sub-Division and they had avoided the Khatkhati check post using the train line.

He also said that while returning to Bokajan police station after observing all formalities from the operation site, one accused tried to escape.

“The police party fired two rounds by aiming at his legs and the accused got bullet injuries. He was rushed to Bokajan CHC for treatment,” the police officer said.
