Assam Live Update: Voting in Guwahati, Barpeta, Kokrajhar and Dhubri

Over 81.49 lakh voters of four parliamentary constituencies in Assam will decide the fate of 47 candidates in the third phase of polls.

Voting has begun in four parliamentary constituencies in Assam-Guwahati, Barpeta, Kokrajhar and Dhubri, in the third phase of polls begins on Tuesday at 7:00 a.m.

Over 81.49 lakh voters of four parliamentary constituencies in Assam will decide the fate of 47 candidates in the third phase of polls.

LIVE UPDATE: 

  • Assam recorded the highest voter turnout of 75.01 per cent.   Barpeta:  76.73%, Dhubri:  79.70%, Guwahati: 68.93%, Kokrajhar:  74.24%.
  • The election commission in Assam’s Bijni launched an investigation after a video surfaced on social media showing an elector casting his vote inside the voting compartment.
  • As the third phase of elections is underway, clashes broke out between two groups at a polling booth in Mankachar in Assam’s Dhubri Lok Sabha seat.
  • The third phase of the Assam Elections has witnessed a voter turnout of 45.88 per cent till 1 pm, as per the latest reports.
  • Guwahati Lok Sabha seat witnessed the lowest turnout of 26.25 per cent among the four Lok Sabha seats.
  • The highest voter turnout was recorded in the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat with 28.28 per cent.
  • Dhubri and Barpeta recorded a voter turnout of 27.77 per cent and 27.19 per cent respectively.
  • Assam has recorded more than 27.34 per cent voter turnout in the first four hours of polling, said the Election Commission officials on Tuesday.

Anurag Goel, chief electoral officer of Assam on Tuesday said all preparations have been made to conduct the third phase of polls in Assam.

“We have set 9,516 polling stations across the districts under four parliamentary constituencies. We have 81,49,091 electors for the third phase. Dhubri seat is the largest in electoral size and Kokrajhar is the smallest. We have done webcasting in 5266 polling stations. We have also installed GPS in all EVM-carrying vehicles and other officials-carrying vehicles,” Anurag Goel said.

In four parliamentary constituencies, he said, there are 41,00,544 male voters, and 40,48,436 Female voters. There are 111 third-gender voters, he said.

Polling in 10 other Lok Sabha seats of the state was completed in the previous two phases.
