Assam: No Helmet No Fuel formula in Majuli

The district administration has adopted a formula of ” No Helmet No Fuel ”  in Assam’s Majuli river island which is the Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s  Assembly constituency.

An order issued by the Majuli Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Chinmoy Nath, on Saturday evening has asked the petrol outlets to provide oil only to two-wheel riders who come wearing helmets.

The order stated that the administration will take serious note of any violation of the order and will impose fine on any petrol pump dealer if it was found that petrol was sold to any two-wheel rider who did not wear helmet.

The order, while asking the motorbike and scooter riders to wear helmets as required to do so under the motor vehicle law of the country, has directed the concerned authorities to initiate action as per provisions of the law against those found violating the Motor Vehicle Act.

An administration source said that the said measure has been undertaken in view of several cases of road accidents involving two-wheelers occurring in Majuli in recent times.
