Assam: RPF Rescues 450 Live Frogs at Silchar Railway Station during Special Drive

The frogs were safely handed over to the Forest Department for rehabilitation.

SILCHAR-   In a significant move towards wildlife protection, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Silchar Railway Station rescued 450 live frogs during a special vigilance drive conducted on 14th April 2025.

Around 8:00 AM, RPF officials discovered three unattended bags near Platform No. 1. Upon careful inspection, each bag was found to contain approximately 150 live frogs, raising immediate concern over illegal wildlife transport. Despite repeated announcements and efforts, no one came forward to claim the bags.

Recognizing the ecological sensitivity of the situation, the RPF team acted swiftly and handed over the rescued frogs to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Barak Valley Wildlife Division, for rehabilitation and further action.

The Northeast Frontier Railway appreciated the alertness of the RPF personnel and reiterated its commitment to environmental conservation, stating that such actions are part of its broader efforts to uphold ecological balance alongside passenger and property safety.
