Two timber laden trucks and one loaded with sand were seized by forest personnel of Hailakandi Forest Division on Friday.
Acting on a tip off, a team of forest personnel seized the trucks filled with sawn timber of varying shapes and sizes and a truckload of illegal sand.
The drivers of the vehicles were caught and handed over to the nearest police station. They were later produced in the court and were remanded to police custody.
Both the trucks laden with timbers and the one with sand are under the custody of Forest Division for further investigation.
“The Hailakandi Forest Division will verify the consignments whether the timbers were smuggled and steps will be initiated accordingly as per the laid down Forest Act,” said Divisional Forest Officer, NH Mazumder.
Mazumder further said that the officials and forest personnel are on high alert and patrolling is on to ensure that no illegal activity in respect of forest products takes place in the district.
