At least two Army personnel died and 26 others were rescued after a building collapsed in Kumarhatti near Solan of Himachal Pradesh. The three-storey building collapsed amid a heavy downpour and at a time when the Army personnel along with their families were having lunch.
“Two casualties have been reported and 26 others have been saved from the debris of the building. However, we believe more people are trapped inside. Most of them are Army personnel who were having lunch in the restaurant inside the building when it collapsed,” ACP Shiv Kumar told media.

The multi-storey building, which housed a restaurant located on the Nahan-Kumarhatti road, collapsed amidst heavy rains in the area, he said. The trapped people reportedly include some Army personnel and their family members, who were on their way to Uttarakhand and had stopped at the restaurant for lunch, he added.
District officials have reached the spot after receiving the information and rescue work is underway, the official added.
A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has been pressed into service from Panchkula as the area has been experiencing heavy downpour. The Army personnel were from Dagshai cantonment near Solan.
Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Ramesh is monitoring the situation as Army has also been deployed into rescue operations.
