Sikkim: SIT formed in Padam Gurung’s death Case, SP Transferred

Dr Tsering Namgyal Gyatso will be the new SP of Namchi

GANGTOK-   The Sikkim Police has formed a special investigation team  ( SIT ) to probe into the death of a 21-year-old student Padam Gurung whose body was found in a drain in Namchi district last week, a senior officer said on Wednesday.

The body of Padam Gurung, the president of the students’ representative council of Namchi Government College, was found in Kazitar, around 77 km from the state capital Gangtok.

Claiming that the dead body had many injury marks, Prem Kumar Gurung, the brother of the deceased, alleged that the student leader was beaten to death and then his body was dumped in the drain.  Prem Kumar also said his brother had gone to a local bar with friends before he went missing.

On the other hand  Superintendent of Police, Namchi, Manish Kumar Verma, videos of whose outburst in a discussion with All Sikkim Gurung Tamu Buddhist Association and family members of the late Namchi College student, Padam Gurung, went viral on social media this evening, has been transferred.

Late Wednesday night, the Department of Personnel issued an Office Order transferring SP Manish Kr Verma from Namchi and posting him as SP, CID, in Gangtok.
He is being replaced by Dr Tsering Namgyal Gyatso, who was serving as SP-Mangan till this evening.  Ajay Kumar Rai, Commandant, 1st IRBn, New Delhi, has been brought in as SP, Mangan.
