Youth Congress Holds Dramatic Protest in Delhi Alleging “Vote Theft” in Haryana Assembly Polls
The protest comes a day after senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that more than 25 lakh fraudulent votes were detected in Haryana’s electoral rolls.

NEW DELHI- The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Thursday staged a dramatic protest in the national capital, accusing the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the ruling BJP of facilitating large-scale “vote theft” during the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections. The protest comes a day after senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that more than 25 lakh fraudulent votes were detected in Haryana’s electoral rolls.
Led by IYC president Uday Bhanu Choubey, hundreds of Youth Congress members marched from the organisation’s headquarters to the ECI office, carrying black flags, symbolic coffins, and placards that read “Save Democracy” and “Stop Vote Theft.” The protesters raised slogans against the BJP government, demanding an independent investigation into the alleged irregularities.

Congress Claims Massive Electoral Fraud
Rahul Gandhi, in a public statement earlier this week, claimed that around 12.5% of Haryana’s voter list was “manipulated,” citing examples where the same person’s photograph appeared multiple times across different polling booths.
The Youth Congress reiterated these allegations during the protest, claiming:
- Duplicate entries were found on a massive scale.
- Voter IDs were allegedly misused during polling.
- The ECI “failed to act despite repeated complaints.”
Protesters carried enlarged copies of alleged duplicate voter entries and claimed that “democracy in Haryana has been compromised.”

ECI, BJP Reject Allegations
The Election Commission and the Bharatiya Janata Party have strongly rejected the allegations, calling them “politically motivated and baseless.” BJP leaders said that Congress was “trying to create a false narrative” after facing electoral setbacks in the state.
Youth Congress Demands Probe
Addressing the gathering, IYC leaders said they will continue the agitation across districts in Haryana and demand:
- A forensic audit of the voter rolls
- A high-level independent investigation into alleged vote tampering
- Accountability of officials involved in maintaining electoral records
- “This fight is not just about Haryana — it’s about protecting India’s democracy,” Choubey said.
Road Blockades, Heavy Security
Delhi Police deployed heavy security around the protest route and barricaded several entry points near the Election Commission office. Traffic in central Delhi was briefly affected, but no major incidents were reported.
A Growing Political Storm
The protest marks a significant escalation of the Congress party’s campaign against the alleged irregularities in Haryana. With assembly elections in other states approaching, political observers say this confrontation between the Congress and the ECI may become a national talking point in the coming days.
