Assam Youth’s Political Tattoos Go Viral Online
A youth from Assam’s Margherita has gone viral after tattooing portraits of political leaders on his body, triggering debate on political fandom and personal expression.

MARGHERITA- A youth from Assam’s Margherita constituency has drawn widespread attention on social media after tattooing lifelike portraits of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and local MLA Bhaskar Sharma across his body, describing the gesture as an expression of deep emotional attachment and personal admiration.
Manab Moran, a resident of Brahmajan in the Pengeri area of Tinsukia district, showcased the tattoos in videos that quickly gained traction online, accumulating thousands of views and shares within hours. The visuals, which depict detailed portraits of the leaders on his forearm and chest, have sparked a wave of reactions across Northeast social media platforms.
Speaking to reporters, Moran said the tattoos symbolise his appreciation for what he described as development work carried out in the region. “This is my way of showing lifelong loyalty; they are like family to me,” he said, adding that the decision was personal and not politically motivated beyond admiration.

Local residents confirmed that Moran has also placed framed photographs of the leaders alongside Minister Pijush Hazarika in a home shrine, a gesture that has further fueled debate online. Supporters have described the act as an example of strong grassroots loyalty, while critics have questioned the boundaries of political devotion and the implications of such expressions in a democratic society.
Observers note that personalised displays of political fandom are not new in Assam, where past instances of supporters tattooing or undertaking symbolic journeys to meet leaders have periodically gained attention. Analysts say the viral episode highlights how digital platforms amplify individual acts of devotion, transforming them into broader public conversations about identity, politics and social behaviour.

Neither the Chief Minister’s office nor the concerned MLA has issued an official response so far. Local party workers, however, termed the gesture an example of emotional connection between leaders and supporters.
As tattoos gain wider cultural acceptance among younger generations, incidents like Moran’s reflect the evolving intersection of politics, personal expression and social media influence — raising questions about how political admiration is publicly displayed in an increasingly digital era.
