Assam: Eminent artist Neel Pawan Barua cremated
In 2021, the Assam government honored him with the state's second highest award, the Assam Gaurav Puraskaar.
GUWAHATI- Eminent artist of Assam, Neel Pawan Barua was cremated today at Navagraha cremation ground in Guwahati. Barua passed away on Friday at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after a prolonged illness.
Barua was 86 years old. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on the artist’s demise, “His demise is an irreparable loss, I pray to God for the eternal peace of the late artist and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”
Barua was born in 1936 in Jorhat district to his father Binanda Chandra Barua and mother Labanya Prabha Barua. He created a unique style by sketching art on matches and cigarette boxes displayed in various exhibitions. In 2021, the Assam government honored him with the state’s second highest award, the Assam Gaurav Puraskaar.
