Assam: Utilise working season to complete ongoing projects-DC Hailakandi

Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi, Adil Khan today directed all the heads of major development departments to make best use of the working season for completion of all ongoing projects and schemes.

Reviewing the progress and status of different projects and schemes at the District Development Committee meeting at his office conference hall here on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Khan directed all the district heads of major departments to complete the ongoing works within the working season. “Gird up your loins and utilise the working season to complete the ongoing projects,” quipped Khan.

Khan directed the Assistant Executive Engineer, PWD (State Road) to complete all the ongoing works by October 10 before the Durga Puja festivity. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the officials of PWD (NH) to expedite construction work of Dholeswari bypass, Katlicherra bypass, 11-km stretch from Janeki Bazar to Hailakandi, Jamira-Kachurthal road bordering Mizoram and also roads damaged by the recent deluge. The officials informed that Rs 85 lakh has been sanctioned for ordinary restoration work of damaged roads, while Rs 35 crore has been sanctioned for taking up major road construction works.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the Executive Engineer, PWD (Building) to expedite the construction of Circle Offices of Lala and Algapur, veterinary hospital, polytechnic, ITI, Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, besides Border Outpost at Baruncherra under the border area development programme.

He directed the Divisional Forest Officer to provide sand, pebbles and other materials to the executing agencies for carrying out construction works.

Khan directed the Assistant Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering to play a proactive role for formation of users’ groups and activating the dormant water supply schemes. Of the 297 water supply schemes, only 30 are functioning and the rest are in dormant state.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Joint Director, Health Services to submit the list of areas and schools that are putting up resistance to the ongoing Measles Rubella vaccination campaign for necessary intervention by the district administration. Khan asked the Circle Officers to hold meetings with the in-charge of Block PHCs to ensure 100% vaccination within their respective jurisdictions. He warned of immediate action for laxity or slackness by any health official or functionary.

Following cases of encroachment on official land, Khan asked the heads of departments to ensure that no land is encroached upon ‘as it is your responsibility to protect the land once it is handed over or allotted to you’.

The Deputy Commissioner along with District Development Commissioner FR Laskar also reviewed the activities of Water Resources, Irrigation, Labour & Employment, Transport and Education departments. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Ruth Lienthang, Sub divisional Officer (Civil), Prodip Timung and other senior officials were also present.
