BSF apprehended one drug smuggler along with 777 yaba tablets from indo-Bangladesh border

GUWAHATI- In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, 62 Bn BSF under the aegis of Guwahati Frontier of BSF, Carried out  a specific information based operation and apprehended one Indian drug smuggler along with 777 Yaba tablets on Wednesday from Indo-Bangladesh in Coochbehar (West Bengal).

A specific input about transhipment of Yaba tablets in the inter-state border villages of Assam and West Bengal which was timely disseminated to the troops of 62 Bn BSF.

On 09 March 2021, BSF troops of Border outpost (BOP) Balabhut Carried out special operation in the general area of Balabhut close to Indo-Bangladesh border. The Special operation party left from BOP Balabhut at about 1840 hrs and accordingly an ambush was laid on Balabhut bridge.

At about 1920 hrs the suspected smugglers were seen riding on a motorcycle approaching towards the Balabhut Bridge. The Ops party, who were concealed, sprang into action on intercepting the suspected smugglers.

However the rider of the motor cycle managed to flee, leaving behind the pillion rider who was apprehended by agility of the troops. Local villagers were called and the apprehended smugglers namely Kurban Ali(19 Yrs) S/O Ashmat Ali R/O Village- Nilukhiya P.S.- Sukhchar, Distt- Dhubri, Assam was searched and frisked  before the civilian witness and he was found with 4 packets containing 777 Yaba tablets.

Apprehended drug smuggler along with seized Yaba tablets have been handed over to P.S. Tufanganj, Distt.- Coochbehar (West Bengal).

Keeping in view of the vulnerability of border, heightened activities of the smugglers and anti-national elements on the border, BSF troops are always alert towards the issues of trans-border crimes & illegal  infiltration and are making all out efforts to prevent commission of such crimes.
