Manipur Fresh violence : 2 houses torched in Imphal

Manipur Police gave information about this incident on Thursday.

IMPHAL– Violence has once again erupted in West Imphal district of Manipur. During the violence, protesters set fire to at least two houses and fired several rounds of bullets. Manipur Police gave information about this incident on Thursday.

Police said that the incident took place at New Keithelmanby under Patsoi police station area around 10 pm on Wednesday night. After the attack, the accused fled from the spot, causing tension in the area.

Police said security forces and fire service personnel brought the fire under control, and a crowd of Meitei women who had gathered in the area after the incident were stopped from moving forward by the security forces.

Police said additional security has been deployed and the situation is under control.

Over 180 people have lost their lives and hundreds have been injured since ethnic clashes broke out in Manipur on May 3 after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status. Have been done.

The Meitei people constitute about 53 percent of Manipur’s population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley. The tribals – Naga and Kuki – constitute slightly more than 40 percent and live in the hill districts.
