IMPHAL- In a significant operation against insurgency, the Assam Rifles gunned down 10 militants in a fierce encounter in Manipur’s Chandel district near the Indo-Myanmar border on Wednesday night, May 14, 2025.
The operation, launched by an Assam Rifles unit under the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, was initiated based on specific intelligence about the movement of armed cadres near New Samtal village in Khengjoy Tehsil, according to the Army’s Eastern Command.
The gunfight erupted when the militants opened fire on the security forces, prompting a swift and decisive retaliation.
The operation, which began on Wednesday, is still underway, with security forces recovering arms and ammunition from the site.
