Bindyarani Devi’s Commonwealth Bronze Inspires Manipur’s Young Sportspersons: CM
Bindyarani Devi told the Chief Minister she plans to change her weight category and skip the upcoming Asian Games to focus on preparations for the next Olympics.
IMPHAL- Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday met and congratulated weightlifter Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam following her bronze-medal performance in the women’s 58 kg weightlifting event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026.
The Chief Minister praised Bindyarani Devi for bringing recognition to Manipur and India through her performance at the international sporting event. He highlighted her dedication, discipline and determination, saying her achievement would inspire young sportspersons across the state to pursue excellence in sports.
During the interaction, Khemchand Singh acknowledged the significant contribution made by sportspersons from Manipur to India’s achievements at international sporting events.

He expressed hope that Bindyarani Devi would continue working hard and achieve greater success in her future competitions. The Chief Minister also extended his best wishes to the weightlifter and encouraged her to continue inspiring the younger generation through her sporting achievements.
During the meeting, Bindyarani Devi informed the Chief Minister that she would not participate in the forthcoming Asian Games, as she plans to change her weight category.
She said her immediate focus would instead be on preparing for the next Olympic Games, indicating a longer-term approach to her competitive career.
