CM Sarma Engages Union Minister, NITI Aayog and Corporate Leaders on Assam’s Growth Roadmap

During a series of meetings in New Delhi, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma discussed farmers’ welfare, governance reforms, infrastructure development, digital connectivity and private sector investments aimed at accelerating Assam’s economic growth.

NEW DELHI- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday held a series of high-level meetings in the national capital, focusing on farmers’ welfare, agricultural modernization, governance reforms, infrastructure development and future investments in the state. The engagements reflected the Assam Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with the Centre, national institutions and private sector stakeholders to accelerate economic growth and improve public service delivery.

One of the key meetings was held with Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, where discussions centered on enhancing farmers’ incomes, modernizing agricultural practices and ensuring effective implementation of welfare schemes. The meeting was attended by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and senior officials from both the Government of India and the Government of Assam.

According to the Chief Minister, the discussions focused on strengthening agricultural infrastructure through mechanized farming, expansion of cold storage facilities, improved market linkages, effective utilization of the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund and the development of efficient supply chains. The leaders also reviewed measures aimed at improving agricultural productivity and post-harvest management across Assam.

The progress of the Government of India’s flagship Lakhpati Didi initiative also featured prominently in the discussions. Sarma informed the Union Minister that nearly 40 lakh women in Assam have benefited from the programme, which seeks to promote entrepreneurship and strengthen rural livelihoods. He described the initiative as a significant contributor to women’s economic empowerment and rural economic growth.

In another important engagement, the Chief Minister met Dr. Ashok Lahiri, recently appointed Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog. Congratulating him on his appointment, Sarma expressed Assam’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the national policy think tank to advance governance reforms and developmental initiatives.

The Chief Minister noted that Assam intends to deepen its engagement with NITI Aayog in implementing reforms aimed at improving the ease of living for citizens. The meeting comes at a time when the state is pursuing major initiatives in governance, infrastructure and welfare delivery, areas where closer collaboration with NITI Aayog is expected to support policy implementation and improve outcomes.

The day’s engagements also included meetings with leading corporate groups to discuss ongoing projects and future investments in Assam. Sarma met S.N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), to review the progress of infrastructure projects being executed by the company in the state and discuss strategies for their timely completion.

Later, the Chief Minister held discussions with Rajan Bharti Mittal, Vice Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, focusing on the company’s expansion plans in Assam, particularly in the telecommunications sector. The discussions emphasized extending mobile and internet connectivity to underserved and remote areas, with the objective of reducing connectivity gaps and improving digital access for citizens.

Collectively, the meetings highlighted Assam’s multi-pronged development strategy, combining agricultural modernization, institutional partnerships, governance reforms, infrastructure expansion and private sector participation. Officials indicated that such engagements are expected to support the state’s broader goal of achieving inclusive growth, enhancing economic opportunities and improving quality of life for its residents.
