Manipur: Tension erupted in Kangpokpi after clash between villagers and security forces
Civil society groups across the region have condemned the security forces' actions.
IMPHAL- Tension erupted once again at Uyok hills today, as women from various villages in Kangpokpi hills attempted to push back the joint security forces, including BSF and CRPF.
The incident follows the successful occupation of a series of bunkers by joint security forces. Led by the Army, CRPF, and BSF, the forces had successfully captured bunkers used by armed men.

Security forces allegedly used tear gas and physical force against Kuki-Zo women protesters in Saibol village, Kangpokpi district, on December 31, leaving multiple people injured and sparking outrage across the region.
The confrontation erupted when local women gathered to protest what they described as the “forceful occupation” of community bunkers by security personnel. According to witnesses, the situation escalated when forces deployed tear gas against the unarmed demonstrators.

Community leaders have demanded an independent investigation into the incident. We will not let this atrocity be swept under the rug,” one leader stated firmly. “Justice must prevail, and those responsible must face the consequences of their actions.”
