Delhi-Goa IndiGo Flight Diverted After Engine Failure; Delhi-Imphal Returns Mid-Air
The back-to-back incidents have drawn attention to IndiGo’s operational reliability, with the DGCA likely to review both cases.

NEW DELHI- In two separate incidents, The IndiGo Delhi-Goa flight makes emergency landing in Mumbai after mid-air engine failure! And IndiGo Delhi-Imphal Flight Returns to Delhi After Technical Snag. Here is report in details.
INCIDENT-1 On the evening of July 16, 2025, IndiGo flight 6E-6271, en route from Delhi to Manohar International Airport in Goa, encountered a critical mid-air engine failure. The Airbus A320neo, carrying 191 passengers, was forced to divert to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) for an emergency landing.
At approximately 9:32 PM, the pilot issued a “PAN PAN PAN” distress call, signaling an urgent situation, about 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar. A full emergency was declared at CSMIA by 9:35 PM, with ambulances and fire tenders on standby.

The aircraft landed safely at 9:52 PM, and the emergency status was lifted by 9:57 PM. No injuries were reported.
IndiGo issued a statement describing the issue as a “technical snag” and confirmed that the aircraft is undergoing a thorough technical inspection. Passengers were provided alternate travel arrangements to reach Goa.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to investigate the incident to ensure compliance with safety protocols. This event has raised concerns about the reliability of IndiGo’s fleet, particularly its Airbus A320neo aircraft, which have faced scrutiny for engine issues in the past.
INCIDENT-2 Less than 24 hours after the Delhi-Goa incident, IndiGo flight 6E-5118, operating from Delhi to Imphal, faced a minor technical issue on July 17, 2025. The Airbus A321 (VT-IMR) returned to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) approximately one hour after takeoff as a precautionary measure. The aircraft landed safely, with no injuries reported among passengers or crew.

IndiGo confirmed that the issue was resolved after necessary checks, allowing the flight to resume its journey to Imphal. A passenger, noted that the pilot announced the return due to a technical snag.
The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and emphasized its commitment to passenger safety.
The back-to-back incidents have drawn attention to IndiGo’s operational reliability, with the DGCA likely to review both cases. While the Delhi-Imphal snag was minor compared to the Delhi-Goa engine failure, the timing has sparked discussions about maintenance protocols at India’s largest low-cost carrier.
Both incidents underscore the importance of robust safety measures in aviation. IndiGo’s swift response ensured no harm to passengers, but the recurrence of technical issues within a short span has prompted calls for stricter oversight. The DGCA’s investigations will likely focus on the causes of these snags and the airline’s maintenance practices to prevent future occurrences.
