Clash Erupts Between BJP and Congress Workers in Patna Over Alleged Remarks Against PM Modi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah called the remarks a “new low in Indian politics,” demanding an apology from Congress and RJD.

PATNA-  Tensions flared in Bihar’s capital today as workers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress clashed violently outside the Congress headquarters at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna.

The confrontation, which involved stone-pelting, flag-tearing, and physical altercations, was sparked by a BJP protest against alleged derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a Congress-led ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ event in Darbhanga two days prior.

The incident began when BJP workers, led by senior leaders including Bihar Minister Nitin Nabin, Sanjay Saraogi, and MLA Sanjiv Chaurasia, marched to the Congress office to protest what they described as “abusive comments” made during the yatra, an event co-led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav.

A viral video showing a person using offensive language against PM Modi and his mother from the rally’s dais fueled the BJP’s outrage, prompting a police complaint and the arrest of the accused in Darbhanga.

Visuals from the clash, widely circulated on social media, depicted chaotic scenes of BJP and Congress workers attacking each other with party flags and sticks. Reports indicate that stones were pelted, vehicles were vandalized, and several individuals from both sides sustained injuries. The gates of Sadaqat Ashram were reportedly locked by Congress workers, who allegedly threw stones at the BJP cadre from inside, escalating the situation further.

BJP leaders condemned the alleged remarks, with Nitin Nabin declaring, “Every son of Bihar will give a befitting reply to Congress for insulting a mother. We will take revenge for this.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda also criticized the Congress, with Shah calling the incident a “new low” in Indian politics under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and demanding an apology from both Congress and RJD. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar echoed the sentiment, terming the remarks “utterly deplorable.”

In response, Congress leaders accused the BJP of orchestrating the clash to derail their ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ which has been gaining traction in Bihar ahead of upcoming assembly elections. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi condemned the violence, emphasizing “truth and non-violence” and stating, “Jitna maarna-todna hai, karo, par sachai jeetegi.”

Congress General Secretary Sachin Pilot alleged that the BJP was “scared” of the yatra’s growing support, claiming the derogatory remarks were made by a BJP “agent” to sabotage the campaign. Congress worker Dr. Ashutosh further accused the state government, led by Nitish Kumar, of complicity in the clash, stating, “This is happening with the government’s involvement. Nitish Kumar is doing wrong.”

The Congress also held a dharna outside Sadaqat Ashram to protest what they described as “hooliganism” by the BJP, alleging that the ruling party was using intimidation to suppress dissent. Posts on social media by the Congress official handle claimed the attack was a deliberate attempt to defame the party and distract from issues like alleged voter fraud in Bihar’s electoral process.

Patna Police, described the clash as “minor” but confirmed injuries on both sides and property damage. The police intervened to disperse the crowd and restore order, with a detailed investigation underway. Darbhanga Police have registered an FIR, and further legal action is being pursued against those involved in the initial remarks and the subsequent violence.

The clash has intensified political tensions in Bihar, with analysts suggesting it could escalate the rivalry between the BJP and the Congress-RJD alliance as the state gears up for elections. Both sides have vowed to respond strongly, raising concerns about further confrontations in the poll-bound state.
