Manipur: PM Modi Inaugurates ₹1,200 Crore Development Projects in Imphal
Prime Minister described Manipur as the “crown jewel adorning the crest of Mother India” and stressed that “the 21st century belongs to the East and the North East.”

IMPHAL- Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated multiple development projects worth over ₹1,200 crore in Imphal, Manipur, reiterating the Centre’s commitment to ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in the state.
Addressing a large gathering, the Prime Minister described Manipur as the “crown jewel adorning the crest of Mother India” and stressed that “the 21st century belongs to the East and the North East.” He urged citizens to take the state forward on the path of sustained peace and development.
Highlighting the major projects, PM Modi said the Manipur Urban Roads Project (₹3,600 crore) and Manipur Infotech Development Project (₹500 crore) will strengthen infrastructure, generate jobs, and “infuse new energy into Manipur’s bright future.” He also inaugurated four new Ima Markets to support women traders and announced that Manipur’s long-awaited new Civil Secretariat building is ready.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government has significantly reduced GST on essential goods and services, which will benefit households and boost tourism in Manipur. He also pointed out the progress under the Smart City Mission in Imphal, construction of Manipur Bhavans in Delhi and Kolkata, and flood-mitigation projects across the state.
Underscoring women empowerment, he hailed the historic Ima Keithel tradition and reaffirmed that women are central to India’s development vision. He also highlighted Manipur’s contribution to sports, recalling the establishment of the National Sports University, the Marjing Polo Complex, and the Olympian Park.

Touching on the state’s cultural and historical significance, PM Modi recalled Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s description of Manipur as the “gateway to India’s independence” and paid tribute to martyrs, including Shaheed Deepak Chingkham. He also reminded the people of the symbolic renaming of Mount Harriet in the Andamans as Mount Manipur.
The Prime Minister assured that the government is working tirelessly to rehabilitate displaced families, announcing 7,000 new houses and a special ₹3,000 crore package, including ₹500 crore earmarked for violence-affected citizens. A new Manipur Police Headquarters will also aid peace and security efforts.

In a significant diplomatic gesture, PM Modi congratulated Smt. Sushila Ji on becoming Nepal’s first woman Prime Minister, expressing confidence that she will guide the country toward peace and prosperity.
Concluding his address, PM Modi said: “In the 21st century, India’s march towards becoming a developed nation depends on the rise of Manipur. The hills and the valley must strengthen dialogue and harmony to make Manipur a powerful centre of India’s growth.”
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and other dignitaries attended the event.
