Manipur: 22 Acres of Poppy Cultivation Destroyed in Kangpokpi
Security forces destroyed around 22 acres of illegal poppy cultivation and dismantled three farm huts during an anti-narcotics operation in Kangpokpi district.

IMPHAL- In a continued crackdown on illegal narcotics cultivation, security forces on Tuesday destroyed approximately 22 acres of poppy plantation along with three farm huts at Sehjang/Khoiripok under the jurisdiction of New Keithelmanbi Police Station in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
Officials said the operation was carried out as part of ongoing anti-drug initiatives aimed at curbing the cultivation of illicit crops in vulnerable hill areas. Security personnel cleared large stretches of poppy fields and dismantled temporary structures believed to have been used for farming and storage activities.

Authorities stated that such operations form part of a broader campaign to reduce narcotics production and disrupt supply chains linked to illegal drug networks in the region. The destruction of plantations is also intended to discourage future cultivation and reinforce law enforcement presence in remote locations.
Manipur has witnessed intensified anti-poppy drives in recent years, with security agencies working in coordination with local administration to identify and eliminate illegal plantations. Officials reiterated their appeal to residents to avoid involvement in illicit cultivation and support ongoing efforts to promote alternative livelihood options.
Further investigation into those responsible for the cultivation is underway, police said.
