Manipur CM Gives Rs 1 Lakh Each to 26 Chronically Ill IDPs
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh assures continued support for displaced people suffering from kidney ailments, cancer and other chronic diseases.

IMPHAL- Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday handed over financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to 26 internally displaced persons (IDPs) suffering from chronic diseases, including kidney ailments and cancer.
The beneficiaries are currently residing at the Lamboikhongnangkhong Relief Camp in Imphal.
The Chief Minister distributed the assistance during a programme organised for seriously ill IDPs at the Manipur Trade Expo Centre Relief Camp in Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal West.
A total of Rs 26 lakh was distributed among the 26 beneficiaries to support their medical treatment.
Govt Assures Continued Support for Seriously Ill IDPs
Addressing the programme, Khemchand Singh said the government was providing financial assistance to help internally displaced people cope with the difficult circumstances they continue to face.
He said special financial support was being extended to IDPs suffering from chronic diseases.
The Chief Minister assured that the latest disbursement would not mark the end of government support for seriously ill displaced people.
He said every possible assistance would continue to be extended to IDPs suffering from chronic diseases in the future.
The financial support was intended to ease some of the hardships faced by displaced families who are already dealing with the difficulties of prolonged displacement and, in some cases, serious health conditions.
CM Highlights Hardship of Living Away From Home
Khemchand Singh said the decision to provide medical assistance was taken with the belief that it would offer some relief to IDPs who remain unable to return to their homes.
He described it as unfortunate that people were unable to live in their own homes and said the prevailing situation had forced many families to endure prolonged hardship away from their communities.
For displaced people suffering from chronic illnesses, the cost and continuity of medical treatment can add to the challenges of living in relief camps.
The assistance is aimed at helping beneficiaries meet treatment-related expenses while they remain displaced.
Livelihood Support Planned for Women IDPs
Rajya Sabha MP Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, who also spoke at the programme, said weaving machines and support for allied livelihood activities would be provided to women IDPs living in the camp.
The proposed support is intended to create livelihood opportunities for displaced women and help them engage in income-generating activities.
The programme was also attended by Kumbi MLA Sanasam Premchandra Singh, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, government officials and residents of the relief camp.
The distribution of medical assistance comes as displaced families in Manipur continue to face challenges related to healthcare, livelihoods and their inability to return home.
The state government has assured that support for IDPs with serious and chronic health conditions will continue.
