Assam: NF Railway detects 211 WT passengers, collects 70 thousand penalty

NF Railway apprehended as many as 211 without ticket passengers and collected penalty to the tune of Rs. 70 thousand during a special drive on ticket checking conducted by its Vigilance department.
The drive was conducted jointly with Commercial and Security department at various locations over Lumding division from 29.05.18 to 31.05.18. The checking which is called a “Fortress” check involves a sort of cordoning off of a train or station by groups of personnel who are trained to ensure that defaulters do not get a chance to slip away.
In addition to the above a special drive was also conducted at New Haflong station by 25658 Kanchanjungha Exp. where 6 nos. of without Ticket passengers were detected and an amount of Rs. 2280/- realised as fare and penalty. Moreover during the above check 28 nos. of unbooked luggage cases were also found and Rs. 3,495/- was collected as penalty.
All the catering units of Silchar, Badarpur, and Lumding were also brought under check and fine amounting to Rs. 11,000/- was imposed on the contractor for overcharging of package drinking water. It is interesting to note that during the drives, the sale of PF ticket considerably increased in Silchar and Badarpur area as much as 292%.
