Three Killed, Houses Torched in Fresh Manipur Attack; CM Condemns Violence
Three civilians, including a woman, were killed and several houses were set ablaze in a suspected militant attack on Loibol Khullen village in Kangpokpi district, prompting condemnation from state leaders and renewed security concerns.

IMPHAL- Three civilians, including a woman, were killed and several houses were damaged in a fresh outbreak of violence in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district early Friday, highlighting the continuing fragility of the security situation in the conflict-affected state.
According to sources, suspected armed militants launched an attack on Loibol Khullen village, located in the New Keithelmanbi area of Kangpokpi district, at around 4 am. The assault resulted in the deaths of three civilians and caused extensive property damage after several houses were reportedly set on fire.
The incident has triggered renewed concerns over law and order in the state, which has witnessed periodic episodes of violence despite heightened security deployment. Security forces have launched an investigation into the attack, while local residents and community leaders have demanded immediate action against those responsible.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh strongly condemned the killings, describing the attack as a “heinous and cowardly act.” In a statement, the chief minister said the deliberate targeting of unarmed civilians was unacceptable and assured that the government would take stringent action against those involved.
He directed the state police and central security agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators at the earliest. The chief minister also instructed authorities to strengthen security arrangements in vulnerable areas and ensure that relief and assistance reach the affected families.

The chief minister further condemned the killing of Havildar Kh. Suresh Singh of the 4th India Reserve Battalion, who was stabbed to death while on duty on the night of June 3. He praised the Thoubal District Police for arresting the main accused within a day and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
Speaking to reporters, Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said the state government was still awaiting a detailed report on the Loibol Khullen attack and cautioned against drawing conclusions regarding those responsible before official findings are available.

“It would be premature to comment on the perpetrators until detailed reports from the ground are received,” the minister said.
Konthoujam also addressed questions regarding the Naga hostages case, after reports emerged that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had informed a court that it had not received formal communication regarding the transfer of the case. The minister stated that he had personally signed the relevant file and suggested that the confusion may have resulted from a misunderstanding. He added that developments in the matter could emerge within the coming days.
The attack also drew condemnation from Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen, both of whom called for swift action against those responsible and urged authorities to restore peace and security in the region.
The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing Manipur and is likely to intensify demands for stronger measures to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further violence.
