The Manipur police seized a huge quantity of heroin and other drugs worth around Rs. 28 crore and arrested eight persons including a BJP leader from different parts of the state in a series of raids in the last 24 hours.
The places raided included the official residence Lukhosei Zou, chairman of the autonomous district council-Chandel (ADC-Chandel), who was taken into custody. Zou, a BJP leader was elected to the ADC Chandel from Moreh town, which is close to the Myanmar border
The drugs – 4.6 kg of heroin and 2,80,200 World is Yours (WY) tablets – were seized by Narcotics and Affairs of Borders (NAB).
The seized contraband were worth around Rs. 28 crore in the international market, said NAB officials, adding that the team also seized a sum of Rs. 13 lakh cash during the raid.
Deputy inspector general of police Themthing Ngashangva said an investigation was on and the police were looking for more individuals as part of the ongoing war against drugs.
