Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called upon the women of the state to act as a bridge between the Government and the society and take the message of the development schemes eliciting active public participation in the development narrative of the state.
While speaking as chief guest at the “Sahayika Samaroh”, which was organized for generating awareness on government schemes amongst the women representatives of 219 development blocks of the state at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati today, Chief Minister Sonowal said this.
The Sahayika Samaroh was organized as a platform for the women representatives to get an understanding of development schemes implemented by government departments.
The programme was organized jointly by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Assam and Assam State Social Welfare Board in association with ONGC. Senior officials of government departments took part as resource persons in the programme.
Highlighting the multifaceted role of women in the society, Chief Minister Sonowal said that women of the state would have to play a significant role in taking the developmental programmes of the Government forward. “As mothers, women play an important role in their families. They must play similar role in building a developed society”, Sonowal observed.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the call for ‘women led development’ in the country, Chief Minister Sonowal underlined state government initiatives for women empowerment to transform them as active partners of the development process and termed them as equal partners of development.
