A total of 17 persons have lost their lives due to flood while 44.96 lakh of people have been affected in the State’s 32 districts till date. Two persons also died in two separate incidents of rain-induced landslide in the State during this flood season, said the official press release of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) here this evening.

Meanwhile, around 90 per cent area of the Kaziranga National Park (KNP) is affected in the current wave of flood. KNP animals have moved to the high land and Forest officials, along with the district and sub-divisional administrations are on alert. Green fodder has also been supplied to the animals, said the ASDMA.
As on today, a total of 4,620 villages under 124 revenue circles have been affected by the flood caused by the rain-fed rivers of the State following the intense rainfall activities over the State and other NE states during the past about one week.
At present, 226 relief camps are operational with 1, 01,085 inmates. Altogether 562 relief distribution centres are also functioning in the State.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been pressed into service in the flood affected areas for search and rescue operations.
NDRF teams with rescue boats have been placed in 16 locations and SDRF teams have also been deployed in 40 locations with rescue boats, said the ASDMA.
