Jharkhand- JMM’s Champai Soren Wins Floor Test in Jharkhand Assembly
The Jharkhand assembly has 81 members. The ruling coalition led by the JMM has 47 members. The floor test saw Champai Soren get the support of 47 MLAs, while 29 MLAs voted against the trust motion.
RANCHI- Jharkhand Mukti Morcha ( JMM ) leader Champai Soren won a floor in the Jharkhand assembly on Monday. Soren was sworn in as chief minister after the controversial arrest of Hemant Soren, which all opposition parties have criticised the Union government for.
The Jharkhand assembly has 81 members. The ruling coalition led by the JMM has 47 members. The floor test saw Champai Soren get the support of 47 MLAs, while 29 MLAs voted against the trust motion.
JMM MLAs, who were at in Hyderabad to avoid horse trading, returned to Ranchi on Sunday night.

At the start of the proceedings, Champai Soren addressed the assembly and said the BJP was attempting to destabilise democracy across the country. “Today the whole country is seeing how injustice is being done to Hemant Soren. If you go to any village, you will find Hemant Soren’s schemes in every house,” he said. “I proudly say that I am part-2 of Hemant Soren.”
Hemant Soren, who had got permission from the court to attend the floor test, delivered a speech in which he said the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha would not run scared, and would continue its battles for Adivasis, Dalits and the marginalised. He also accused the state governor of being involved in his arrest.
Congress leader Pradip Yadav also spoke in the assembly, expressing his party’s support to the Champai Soren government. “I am sure that this new government will continue to provide the people with the rights and welfare started by Hemant Soren,” he said.

CPI(ML) leader Vinod Kumar Singh spoke out against the Union government’s alleged use of central agencies against opposition leaders. “They [the BJP] have changed the definition of corruption,” he said. “If you are in the opposition to the BJP you are corrupt, if you with the BJP you are corruption-free.” He named several leaders against whom the central agencies have stopped acting as soon as they joined the BJP, like Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Nominated Anglo-Indian legislator Glen Joseph Galstaun also express his support for Champai Soren. “I am the last nominated member in the last country. I thank Hemant Soren for nominating me,” he said, accusing the BJP of taking away the rights of all minorities.
