Rajasthan : MA Sociology Students Receive Answer Keys Instead of Question Papers
The University of Rajasthan has ordered an inquiry after answer keys were mistakenly distributed during an MA Sociology examination, forcing authorities to cancel and reschedule the test.

JAIPUR— In a shocking administrative lapse, the University of Rajasthan came under intense scrutiny after students appearing for the MA Sociology second-semester examination were mistakenly distributed answer keys instead of question papers at one of the examination centres.
The incident occurred on June 16 (or 17, according to some reports) during the exam on topics such as Indian Society. Around 300 students were affected. Chaos erupted in the examination hall when candidates realised the sheets contained detailed answers and theory material rather than questions. Some reports suggested the content appeared to be AI-generated (possibly from tools like ChatGPT) and included pre-written responses.
Students immediately protested, refusing to continue the exam and demanding accountability. University officials swiftly collected the papers and cancelled the examination to uphold fairness. The exam has been rescheduled for June 27, 2026.

University’s Controller of Examinations Rakesh Rao confirmed the cancellation, stating “Given the seriousness of the matter, the examination has been cancelled and rescheduled for June 27. An inquiry is underway to determine how the error occurred and fix responsibility.”
The university described the incident as an “unavoidable reason” in its official notice and ordered an internal probe. Preliminary findings indicate that separate sealed envelopes for question papers and answer keys were mixed up during printing or packing. Officials reportedly assured students that strict measures would be taken to prevent recurrence.
No detailed public statement has emerged yet from the Rajasthan Higher Education Minister or the state government. However, sources close to the administration acknowledged the lapse as a serious administrative error.

Education observers have called for greater oversight of university examination processes, especially amid growing concerns about the use of AI in question paper preparation.
Students expressed outrage and frustration over the disruption to their academic schedule. One affected student told reporters: “Authorities took back the question papers and asked us not to speak about the matter outside. They only informed us that the examination would now be held on June 27.”
Many students complained about the inconvenience, with some worrying about preparation time lost and the impact on their semester progress. Protests were held at the examination centre and near the university’s administrative block, with calls for action against those responsible.

Local reactions on social media and among educationists were sharp. Comments ranged from “peak laziness” and “utterly embarrassing” to questions about the overall credibility of the university’s examination system. NSUI functionaries also raised the issue, highlighting negligence in the Sociology department’s exam conduct.
This incident has once again spotlighted concerns regarding examination management in Indian universities, coming at a time when several states are already grappling with issues of paper leaks and logistical errors. The ongoing inquiry is expected to submit its report soon, with possible disciplinary action against erring officials.
