YouTuber Samay Raina Appears Before Assam Police on Saturday
According to media reports, the interrogation was conducted discreetly, with the Assam Police maintaining a low profile during the process.

GUWAHATI- Indian YouTuber and stand-up comedian Samay Raina appeared before the Investigating Officer of the Crime Branch in Guwahati, Assam, amid an ongoing legal controversy surrounding his YouTube show, India’s Got Latent.
This development comes nearly two months after a firestorm erupted over allegations of promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit content on the show, which led to multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) being filed against Raina and other associated influencers across India.

The controversy originated in early February 2025, when a particular episode of India’s Got Latent—a comedy talent show hosted by Raina—drew widespread criticism. The episode featured YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia (popularly known as BeerBiceps), who posed a provocative question to a contestant. The remark triggered immediate backlash on social media, with many labeling it as vulgar and offensive. This led to complaints from the public and political figures, prompting legal action.
Following the backlash, Raina took swift action by removing all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel in mid-February 2025.

Meanwhile, Allahbadia issued a public apology, admitting that his comment was a “lapse in judgment” and clarifying that “comedy is not my forte.”
Despite these apologies, legal proceedings continued. In February, Assam Police summoned Raina and others to appear for questioning. At the time, Raina was in the United States for a pre-scheduled tour, prompting him to request additional time to comply with the summons.

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, Raina finally appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch, where his statement was recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to media reports, the interrogation was conducted discreetly, with the Assam Police maintaining a low profile during the process.
While specific details of Raina’s statement remain undisclosed, his appearance marks a significant step in the legal proceedings that have spanned multiple states and involved various law enforcement agencies, including the Assam Police, Maharashtra Cyber Cell, and Mumbai Police.
The investigation has also seen statements recorded from other individuals linked to the show, such as judge Raghu Ram and influencers Apoorva Makhija and Ashish Chanchlani.
As of April 5, 2025, the investigation remains ongoing, with no official conclusion announced by the Assam Police. Raina’s cooperation with the authorities aligns with his earlier pledge, but the outcome of the case could have broader implications for content creators in India.
The controversy has sparked debates about the boundaries of free speech, the regulation of online content, and the responsibility of influencers on platforms like YouTube.
The India’s Got Latent row has already led to calls for stricter oversight of digital media, with political figures like Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the National Commission for Women (NCW) weighing in. The NCW had summoned Raina and Allahbadia in February, scheduling hearings for early March, though Raina’s appearance was deferred to March 11 due to his travel commitments.
